REPLICA OF THE ALTAMIRA CAVE AND NATIONAL MUSEUM OF PREHISTORY (2001)ALTAMIRA (SANTANDER) SPAIN

Altamira is one of the icons of universal art and a very important
source for understanding the life of our ancestors, the people who painted and inhabited this cave in prehistoric times .The cave of Altamira, a very popular destiny during the 1970’s, had to be closed to the public in order to ensure the protection of its unique paintings, and the Spanish government decided to do a replica. It was a unique occasion were knowledge, technology and creativity were gatheredtogether to create an experience that would offer the visitors an experience that made them forget the fact that they were not on the real place”. We made a replica that brings us to the cave as it was at the time when it was abandoned, more than 14.000 years ago. The
replica, that occupies an area of 900 sq meters, in the Polychrome room, known as the Sistine Chapel of Prehistory – is so accurate to the
original that even experts like to analyze the quality of the paintings in it, but life has come back to it!
